The grounding work for the department establishment began in 1991, when professor Cheng, Feng-Sheng, the chairman of Information Engineering Department at that time, and the newly-hired guest professor Sung, Kai were in charge.
The Department of Information Management was officially founded in 1993, temporarily under the School of Management, for its first year. Later, attributable to professor Cheng, Feng-Sheng's long-term practice in "Information Society", Yuan Ze University was famous for its efforts and contributions in information systems field, and became the first university that founded school of Informatics in Taiwan. Under such a circumstance, the Department of Information Management joined the School of Informatics after several official meetings and discussion between the two schools.
